A subspecies of Hopple, the Dark Hopples have extraordinarily strong legs that it uses to spring up and land on other creatures, with its wings being used to help stabilize them as they move through the air. Using specialized hook straws on their feet, they stab and drink the blood of unsuspecting prey. A numbing enzyme coats their feet to prevent the one having its blood drinking from being away of its presence. The male Hopples lack the extra set of large eyes the females have, as it has no need to see which capillaries are oxygen-rich arteries instead of veins. The females store their eggs internally in blood and require more oxygen than breathing can provide to pass through the egg's outer layers.
